Daniel Craig hints he MIGHT be on board for more Bond films

007 star spoke with The New Yorker's Nicholas Schmidle in the 90-minute appearance at the arts and politics festival which runs from October 7-9.

Daniel Craig told the audience: "I got the best job in the world doing Bond. The things I get to do on a Bond movie and the type of work it is, there's no other job like it"

He also said:

"If I were to stop doing it – just say – I'd miss it terribly. It's one of the most thrilling things as an actor you can do"

"I love this job. I get a massive kick out of it. And, if I can keep getting a kick out of it, I will."

But he confirmed there were was no truth in the hefty paycheck: he has not been offered a whopping $150 million to sign on for two more Bond flicks:

"There's no conversation going on, everybody's just a bit tired,' he said at his Beyond Bond panel.

Clearing up the rumours:
The British star - who famously stated last year that he would rather 'slash my wrists' than do another movie as 007:

However, the comments were made at the end of a gruelling press tour.

"When asked 20 feet from the end of a marathon: "will you do another marathon?" The answer is simple: no, I won't,' he told the assembled crowd. “It was the day after filming. I’d been away from home for a year.”

The physical strains of the role combined with the distance from his family take a toll, he said. Craig was careful, though, about not seeming to complain to much: "Boo-hoo. It's a good gig. I enjoy it."

Generally, last night Craig sounded keen to row back from some of the more mouthy comments he'd made about the Bond franchise and Hollywood in general. He also commented:

"Maybe I disparagingly said that the movie industry is getting a little too based on focus groups. But a Bond movie doesn't work like that. You literally get it out by the skin of your teeth. You finish shooting it, and less than six months later it's out. There's no time for focus groups."

Daniel Craig also stated that the franchise's spearheads, including producer Barbara Broccoli, were also focused on different projects. Broccoli will be producing the off-Broadway production of Othello, which Daniel will star in himself from November through to January.

Craig is currently attached to Steven Soderbergh’s next movie, Logan Lucky, opposite Channing Tatum. He’s also part of Showtime’s Jonathan Franzen adaptation, Purity, and Kings, with Halle Berry. Given his packed schedule, then, it’s not surprising that Craig said there have been “no conversations” about the next Bond film. “Everyone’s a bit tired.”

Craig remains the producers' first choice to play Bond. One of the series's executive producers, Callum McDougall, confirmed as much to the BBC last month: "We would love Daniel to return as Bond. Without any question he is absolutely [Bond producers] Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli's first choice. I know they're hoping for him to come back."
