007 Related restaurant: Sobrino de Botin

SOBRINO DE BOTIN

Location: Madrid, Spain
Address: Calle de los Cuchilleros, 17
Bond connection: Pierce Brosnan ate there with his mother while visiting Madrid in 2016
Visited by 007 Travelers: July 2017

Sobrino de Botín founded in 1725 is the oldest restaurant continuously operating in the world, according to the Guinness Book of Records. The artist Francisco de Goya worked in Cafe Botin as a waiter while waiting to get accepted into the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. The restaurant is mentioned in an Ernest Hemingway novel and the book Fortunata y Jacinta by Benito Pérez Galdós (published 1886-1887).

Pierce Brosnan ate there with his mother while visiting Madrid back in 2016. 007 Travelers followed Mr. Brosnan's footsteps and dined here also. Pirita ate "Salmón Ahumado", Mika ate Veal escalope "Escalope de Ternera". We drank a half bottle of red wine (Vino Tinto de la Casa) and Agua Mineral, and we had also desserts "Tarta Botin" and "Crema Catalana". This is the restaurant that can be highly recommended to all who are searching wonderful food in Madrid. The staff is really friendly and dinner was just perfect!

Hotel Ritz is a belle époque palace hotel managed by Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group and located in Madrid’s “Golden Triangle” of culture. It is located directly opposite the Museo del Prado and close by other major galleries including the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum and Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia. Also nearby are the Buen Retiro Park and Botanical Gardens. The hotel’s façade is a listed national monument and it sits in gardens with a terrace restaurant.

It is a five star luxury hotel located in Madrid, Spain at No. 5 in the Plaza de la Lealtad, Retiro district, next to the Prado Museum and opposite the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum. 007 Travelers had a lovely afternoon at the terrace of beautiful Hotel Ritz Madrid. We stood in front of a staircase where Mr. Brosnan also was back in 2002 when promoting his movie Evelyn.

We ate some snacks and drank refreshments, we both ate Cesar Pollo salads and drank a glass of wine and a lemonade. Such a wonderful way to spend a time in Madrid :)

007 Food: Two cups of coffee, one egg and slices of toasts with Cooper's Vintage marmalade

Food: Two cups of coffee, one egg, and slices of toasts with Cooper's Vintage marmalade
Bond book appearance: GoldenEye (1995)
Experience of 007 Travelers: Self-made

"He shaved and dressed - slacks, a white sea island cotton shirt, soft espadrilles and blazer - in his usual time, then went through the small living room into the tiny kitchen where he carefully cooked his normal breakfast, or near enough his normal breakfast - the best meal of the day, and the most important he always considered.
The coffee was not his much beloved De Bry brewed in an American Chemex, but it was near enough and brewed in an earthenware jug. He had managed to lay his hands on Cooper's Vintage Marmalade, wholewheat bread for his toast and eggs very similar to the ones from French Marans hens. Unhappily there was none of the deep yellow Jersey butter, but he found the local variety very much to his taste.
He took his time over the two cups of coffee, the egg boiled for exactly three and one third minutes and his slices of toast."

John Gardner: "GoldenEye" (1995)
