Pirita & Mika

What: 007 Travelers got engaged in London, UK

When: 11 November 2017

We got the MI6 table at the Rules restaurant and that is where Pirita and Mika from 007 Travelers got engaged!

The Rules restaurant is of course a filming location of "SPECTRE" (2015). That is the place where Q (Ben Whishaw) and Moneypenny (Naomie Harris) come to meet M (Ralph Fiennes).  Rules is also the oldest restaurant in London. (EST 1798)

M - The head of MI6

When in "Skyfall" (2012) M (Judi Dench) is tragically killed, Gareth Mallory (Ralph Fiennes) is named as her successor.

In "SPECTRE" (2015), the new M is forced to suspend Bond following his rogue mission in Mexico. He comes under serious pressure from within the intelligence services when the Double-0 section is under threat from a new initiative called Nine Eyes, headed by C. After discovering that the terrorist organisation Spectre is behind Nine Eyes, M and Q succeed in stopping its activation but a subsequent struggle between M and C results in C falling to his death. M then goes on to arrest Spectre villain Blofeld on Westminster Bridge.

James Bond's gadget maker also makes virtual reality glasses

Ralph Osterhout got his start helping make props in Bond films. These days he is bringing science fiction to life.

It’s a long way from making props for James Bond movies to developing state-of-the art virtual reality goggles. Then again, Ralph Osterhout has had more than three decades to get from Point A to Point VR.

Along the way, he has made diving gear, small submarines and night-vision glasses for the military. He even made a ceramic weapon that President Nixon’s secret service could use on his trip to China, where guns weren’t allowed.

“Crazy stuff like that,” Osterhout said as he recalled his earliest days, getting to know the stand-ins on the set of “The Spy Who Loved Me”(1977). Making working props for Bond films in the 1970s helped launch Osterhout’s career making the impossible gadgets of science fiction into reality.

Osterhout designed and built equipment that appeared in or on:
"The Spy Who Loved Me" (1977), propulsion system on submarine car and chase mini-subs.
"Never Say Never Again" (1983), underwater vehicles that transported bad guy’s atomic warheads. (Wikipedia)

MI6 hiring 1,000 new staff but the greatest spy character in fiction, James Bond, would never get a job in the real-life MI6

The greatest spy character in fiction, James Bond, would never get a job in the real-life MI6, the head of the ultra-secretive agency said.

Alex Younger, the chief of the Secret Intelligence Service, admitted 007’s life of hand-to-hand combat and serial romances with the world’s most beautiful women was perhaps not quite as realistic as some may hope to believe.

Ian Fleming’s rash and rebellious character would be rejected by today’s intelligence service, said Mr Younger.

‘In contrast to James Bond, MI6 officers are not for taking moral shortcuts,’ the head of MI6 said.
‘In fact, a strong ethical core is one of the first qualities we look for in our staff.
‘It’s safe to say that James Bond wouldn’t get through our recruitment process and, whilst we share his qualities of patriotism, energy and tenacity, an intelligence officer in the real MI6 has a high degree of emotional intelligence, values teamwork and always has respect for the law - unlike Mr Bond.’

Speaking in a rare question and answer session Mr Younger, traditionally known as ‘C’ within MI6 circles, added: ‘We know that if we undermine British values, even in the name of defending them, then we have failed.

‘Our staff are not from another planet. ‘They are ordinary men and women operating in the face of complex moral, ethical and physical challenges, often in the most forbidding environments on earth.’
Although the Secret Intelligence Service is necessarily mysterious the stereotypical qualities many assume will be necessary for a career in spying ‘couldn’t be further from the truth’, Mr Younger said.
He told the Black History Month website: ‘My ultimate goal is for more people to consider a career in MI6 and to get rid of the myth that it’s all about having studied at Oxford or Cambridge or having advanced hand-to-hand combat skills,’ he added.
‘That stereotype really couldn’t be further from the truth.
‘What is true is that our work at MI6 is exciting, intellectually challenging and it matters. We are Britain’s secret frontline, operating upstream in the shadows to keep our friends, families and fellow countrymen and women safe.’

The Secret Service boss is now on a drive to try and get more people to sign up and Mr Younger urged the ‘best of Britain’ to apply for a job.

SPECTRE premiere in Finland

The official "SPECTRE" (2015) premiere in Finland is 30 October 2015.

007 Travelers has seen this film, see our review here. (no heavy spoilers)

In Finland the duration of "SPECTRE" (2015) is 2 hours and 28 minutes
(excl Trailers, Advertisements). Age limit is 12 years.

See the plot:

A cryptic message from the past sends James Bond on a rogue mission to Mexico City and eventually Rome, where he meets Lucia Sciarra (Monica Bellucci), the beautiful and forbidden widow of an infamous criminal. Bond infiltrates a secret meeting and uncovers the existence of the sinister organisation known as SPECTRE.

Meanwhile back in London, Max Denbigh (Andrew Scott), the new head of the Centre for National Security, questions Bond’s actions and challenges the relevance of MI6, led by M (Ralph Fiennes). Bond covertly enlists Moneypenny (Naomie Harris) and Q (Ben Whishaw) to help him seek out Madeleine Swann (Léa Seydoux), the daughter of his old nemesis Mr White (Jesper Christensen), who may hold the clue to untangling the web of SPECTRE. As the daughter of an assassin, she understands Bond in a way most others cannot.

As Bond ventures towards the heart of SPECTRE, he learns of a chilling connection between himself and the enemy he seeks, played by Christoph Waltz.

"SPECTRE" review by 007 Travelers (NO HEAVY SPOILERS)

007 Travelers was invited to see "SPECTRE" (2015) in Helsinki Finland on the night between Tuesday and Wednesday (27-28 October 2015) and the starting time was - of course - 0.07!

We had SPECTRE popcorns, candy and lemonade, sponsored by our secret host.

Here is our review (DOES NOT INCLUDE HEAVY SPOILERS)

This is the most expensive Bond movie so far, thrilling and this really is a classic! Age limit of SPECTRE in Finland is 12 years and duration 2 hours and 28 minutes.

BOND GIRLS

The film starts from Mexico where is the action sequence in Mexico City for the Day of the Dead where you can see the Bond girl Estrella (Stephanie Sigman). The film moves to Rome where Bond meets mystery lady Lucia Sciarra (Monica Bellucci) and later he goes to Austria and meets Dr. Madeleine Swann (Léa Seydoux). Will Bond fall in love or is he a womanizer like before? And what happens in Morocco? Or in Bond´s London?

BOND BADDIES

Franz Oberhauser (Christoph Waltz) is awesome! And how cool is Hinx! (Dave Bautista) This film is full of action! "You´re a kite dancing in a hurricane, Mr. Bond", says Mr. White (Jesper Christensen) What happens next? You need to see it yourself.

BOND CARS

Legendary Aston Martin DB10 driving along the streets of Rome with the coolest and most beautiful villan car ever: Jaguar C-X75. Great job!

MI6 TEAM
Daniel Craig has grown into the role of the British agent 007 in SPECTRE, which means Special Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion.
Also we like especially how Q is more involved than earlier and Ben Whishaw does a great job as an actor with his role as well as Ralph Fiennes (M),  Rory Kinnear (MI6 Chief of Staff Tanner in SPECTRE) and Naomie Harris (Eve Moneypenny).

See the whole cast and crew of SPECTRE here.

Thomas Newman's music is awesome and Sam Mendes does a wonderful job directing this latest 007 adventure. Good to mention also brilliant opening sequence by Daniel Kleinman.

More information about the SPECTRE soundtrack here.

You can see the SPECTRE filming locations here but there might be some spoilers, so you may want to think twice before clicking this tempting link. ;)
