007 Travelers Interview: Hotel Eiger Mürren / Adrian Stähli

007 Travelers visited Hotel Eiger Mürren, and met
Mr. Adrian Stähli. We asked him about his work, about James Bond and traveling.
Who: Adrian Stähli (Hotel Manager)
Where: Hotel Eiger Mürren, Switzerland
When: 17 July 2014
007 Connection: George Lazenby has stayed here in 2013 during opening of BOND WORLD 007.

Also while filming "On Her Majesty´s Secret Service" (1969) part of the filming crew stayed here and they together with George Lazenby celebrated in Hotel Eiger´s Tächi Bar.

He also played poker in Hotel Eiger for so long against Telly Savalas (Ernst Stavro Blofeld) and lost, so producer Harry Saltzman later asked Savalas to return the money to George Lazenby

1. How long have you worked in Hotel Eiger Mürren?
I have been working here for ten years as a Manager, but I grew up here in the hotel and I started to do small things and helped here a bit already when I was four years old.

2. You have a long tradition here in the hotel. Could you tell us a little about history and background?
Yes, I'm glad to do that. My wife Susanne and me are running the hotel and this hotel has been in the family for four generations, so we have already owned the hotel more than hundred years and we have gone through lots of things, like two World Wars, but the family has kept the hotel and brought it up again, so we have now typical summer and winter resort in the middle of the Alps.

3. Who is your favourite James Bond actor? (leading male role)
George Lazenby. Can't be different. He is the only person that I know little bit more as he has been here, so I had a chance to chat a bit with him.

4. So, you were there when the Bond World 007 opened last year (2013)?
Yes, when the Bond World 007 opened, it was a big event for Mürren, obviously for the Schilthorn Railway Company too, but also for Mürren, because we had these celebrities like George Lazenby, who came here to stay in the hotel and he stayed here for about three nights and we organized - in car-free resort -a Rolls Royce to go from A to B. But this was a very funny story to drive in the middle of the car-free village with George Lazenby in a Rolls Royce. It was quite amazing.

5. Did he stay in the Bond suite and what is the story behind the suite?
Unfortunately not, no. Actually we have this new Bond suite, which has only been in existence since September last year. (2013) It is a really new thing, we designed it beacause we have seen that there is quite a strong demand for any Bond story, we have had one suite where we knew that the layout would be very special one and we decided to make a Bond suite. It has been very popular since we put it on the internet December last year (2013) and it has been good and we have had lots of Bond friends here and they know each other and if somebody has stayed in the suite, they tell others.

6. The best Bond movie?
They are all good but I think the best Bond movie is "On Her Majesty´s Secret Service" (1969) since it is related to Mürren and to my place obviously, and I have the strongest feelings about it, for sure.

7. Which is the best place where you have traveled so far?
Probably Bali, actually. We always have November very death month and it is very difficult to travel in Europe. November is a very grey month. We want to travel little bit further, we had a very nice time in Bali.

8. Which is the place where you would like to visit but have not yet been?
If only one place, I would like to go to Nepal because I have friends who have been there and they told about the landscape and the people.
