Kino Ritz Vaasa
007 Travelers arrived in beautiful Vaasa already in the afternoon, so we had time to visit some of Vaasa's restaurants and cafés that are listed on VisitVaasa site.
In the evening we went to the venue, Kino Ritz Vaasa.
The event was sold out!
Ritz is an old movie-theatre in the city of Vaasa now serving as a culture venue for concerts, art exhibitions and stand-up comedy and much more!
In the lobby it was possible to use some Bond "props" for the photo.
Thanks to conductor Peter Roos, they had booked us the media seats and we had the best possible view to the stage.
The concert began at 20.00 and these Bond theme songs were performed:
(Adaptation: Tobias Udd)
When clock turned to eight, everything was ready to start. Kurikan Soittokunta, Wasa Sinfonietta & Band (Dir. Peter Roos) came to stage and started to play "James Bond Theme" (1963) from first James Bond movie "Dr. No" (1962)
Vocalists of Licence to Play concert are: Pentti Hietanen, Annikka Wiklund, Roosa & Iina Hietanen, Sonja Biskop and Andreas Haals. They were introduced by Kimmo Niemi.
For a starters we heard Pentti Hietanen's interpretation of "From Russia with Love" (1963). Originally it was performed John Barry as an instrumental version during the opening titles sequence of the film. Matt Monro's version with voice can be heard during the film and when we see end credits on the screen.
Sonja Biskop, who owns a beautiful voice performed Shirley Bassey's song "Goldfinger" (1964) and after that we heard Hietanen singing "Thunderball" from year 1965. The original performer was Sir Tom Jones, "The Tiger of Wales".
Then arrived Annika Wiklund, who sang "You Only Live Twice" (1967). Originally it was performed by Nancy Sinatra.
Next we heard band playing instrumental version of John Barry Orchestra's "On Her Majesty´s Secret Service" (1969). Then we moved to Roosa Hietanen's splendid interpretation of "Diamonds Are Forever" (1971) by Shirley Bassey.
It was time of Paul McCartney & Wings song "Live and Let Die" (1973). Pentti Hietanen performed the song so brilliantly that it gave cold chills in a good way.
Before that song actually ended, Hietanen gave stage to Annika Wiklund, who sang Lulu's song "The Man with the Golden Gun" (1974).
Following songs were "Nobody Does It Better", (Carly Simon), which is a theme song of "The Spy Who Loved Me" (1977) and "Moonraker" (1979) by Shirley Bassey. Both songs in the concert were performed by Sonja Biskop.
Then we heard Roosa Hietanen singing "For Your Eyes Only" (1981), which was originally performed Sheena Easton, and from 1983 "All Time High", (Rita Coolidge), the theme song from "Octopussy" performed now by Annika Wiklund. After that was time for a break.
After the break Andreas Haals came to stage and sang Duran Duran's "A View to a Kill" (1985) and Pentti Hietanen performed A-ha's "The Living Daylights" (1987).
Then we heard Gladys Knight song "Licence to Kill" (1989) sung by Sonja Biskop now, Iina Hietanen interpreted Tina Turner's "GoldenEye" (1995) and Sheryl Crow's "Tomorrow Never Dies" (1997).
Before Andreas Haals's version of "The World Is Not Enough" (1999) by Garbage, we heard short instrumental version of "Die Another Day" (2002), originally sung by Madonna.
We heard top performance from Pentti Hietanen, when he sang "You Know My Name", which is the title song of "Casino Royale" (2006), originally performed by Chris Cornell.
Wonderful duet was next in line, when Roosa and Iina Hietanen sang the theme song from "Quantum Of Solace" (2008), which is called "Another Way to Die". The duet was originally performed by Jack White & Alicia Keys.
Evening was on that phase, that it was time to sing "Skyfall" from 2012 movie, originally performed by Adele, and Sonja Biskop sang it beautifully, Andreas Haals and Annika Wiklund were also on stage as background vocalists.
Audience gave huge applause after the song. Then it was time for grand finale, when Roosa and Iina Hietanen performed Sam Smith song "Writing´s On The Wall" from 2015 movie "SPECTRE".
For an encore all the vocalists came to stage and we heard Licence to Play song, which was a version of "Licence to Kill" song.
