James Bond visited this beautiful hotel in John Gardner's 007 book "Never Send Flowers"

"Less than an hour later, they pulled up in front of the imposing Hotel Victoria-Jungfrau- a building which still retains the splendour of the British Victorian architectural influence on so many large Swiss hotels. There had been no sign of the red car once they had got fully under way.
Inside, there was the usual gravity over the formal registration: a neat, unsmiling dark-haired under-manager, whose little plastic nameplate revealed her to be Marietta Bruch, watched them as though intent on taking their fingerprints. She then went through the passport routine before saying that she was so sorry about what she actually called `the untimely demise of your relative' Then: `You have, I believe, papers from the police?" Fredericka smiled, digging into her large shoulder bag, carefully keeping it below the level of the reception desk so that nobody could glimpse the pistol. `Yes, I have them, don't I, darling?" She beamed, giving Bond a quick, raised eyebrow."
Perhaps you would like to come with me?" She came around to their side of the reception desk, back on form, curtly instructing a porter to take Mr and Mrs Bond's cases to 614. She put a great deal of stress on the Mrs Bond, as though clearly saying that she did not believe a word of it.
Laura March had opted for an obviously cheap and cheerful room.
It is not one of our luxury accommodations." Unterfuhrer Bruch-as Bond now thought of her-broke the seals and turned the key in the lock."

INTERLAKEN

Our breakfast was in the beautiful Hotel De La Paix.

Later we checked out and returned our rented Skoda Fabia to Europcar. Near by is Hotel Victoria - Jungfrau Interlaken and we took some photos of it. James Bond visited there in John Gardner's book "Never Send Flowers" (1993).

There is also a Golden Pass Line between Montreux and Interlaken, if you want to visit BOND WORLD 007 and the Revolving Restaurant Piz Gloria. They are located in Mürren. 007 Travelers warmly recommends!

HOW TO GET THERE
Take the Golden Pass Line from Montreux to Interlaken Ost.
Take a train from Interlaken Ost for Lauterbrunnen, from where a postbus takes you to the bottom station of the Schilthorn aerial cableway in Stechelberg. The aerial cableway to Mürren departs every 30 minutes.

By the time we arrived, we were quite hungry. We found Ristoranti-Pizzeria Molino where we had tuna pizza 24,50 CHF, Margherita “Pizza O Penne” 10,00 CHF and Salami E Gorgonzola 24,50 CHF. Montreux was much more expensive than Interlaken.

While visiting Bern, people speak German, and in Locarno they speak Italian and here in Montreux they speak mostly French. However everyone can speak very good English.
We found our hotel with a beautiful lake view form our balcony.

Address: Rue Bon Fort 33-35, Montreux
Price: 214 CHF (199 EUR), breakfast included, reserved via booking.com
Wi-Fi: Free
Check in: 14.00
Check out:11.00
Room type: Triple Room with lake view and balcony

Our room was on the first floor, room 132.

We wanted to explore the area, where we found the famous statue of Freddie Mercury
He settled in Montreux where Queen had bought Mountain Recording Studio and where he learnt to appreciate the peace and quiet. He recorded his last album, Queen - "Made in Heaven" at the Montreux studio.

A statue by sculptor Irena Sedlecka is a tribute to Mercury. It stands almost 10 feet (3 metres) high overlooking Lake Geneva and was unveiled on 25 November 1996 by Mercury's father and Montserrat Caballé, with bandmates Brian May and Roger Taylor also in attendance. Beginning in 2003 fans from around the world have gathered in Switzerland annually to pay tribute to the singer as part of the "Freddie Mercury Montreux Memorial Day" on the first weekend of September. (Wikipedia)

We also visited the Chillon Castle, an architectural jewel located in the most beautiful setting imaginable - on the shores of Lake Geneva, right at the foot of the Alps.

Address: Avenue de Chillon 21, Montreux
Open (2014): 9.00 - 19.00 (last entry 18.00)
Price (2014): Family ticket 29,00 CHF (23,73 EUR), but with our Swiss Pass it was free

Later we had a boat cruise on the Lake Geneva, it was free since we had the Swiss Pass and validated for this day.

The places where the boat stopped were:
* Montreux
* Territet
* Chillon
* Villeneuve
* Bouveret
* Saint-Gingolph

We visited Villeneuve and took a bus back to our hotel.

We had dinner in hotel's own restaurant. Chicken salad, salmon pasta and spaghetti.

We went to sleep when thunderstorm started.

Our next and last 007 stop in Switzerland is Geneva, where this tour also started. Read what happened in Geneva and Coppet here

007-matkakertomus: Interlaken & Montreux (SVEITSI) 2014

Lukeaksesi Sveitsin 007-matkakertomuksemme ensimmäisestä päivästä alkaen klikkaa tästä.

Sunnuntai 20.7.2015

Söimme aamiaisen kauniissa Hotel De La Paix-hotellissa.

"Vajaan tunnin kuluttua he ajoivat mahtavan hotelli Victoria-Jungfrau eteen.
Sitten – Uskoakseni teillä on paperit poliisilta?
– Kyllä, minulla on paperit, eikö olekin, kultaseni?

John Gardner: "Ei kukkia vainajalle, James Bond

Huomasitko patsaan?

REITTIOHJE:
Matkusta Golden Pass Linella Montreuxista Interlaken Ostiin.
Mene junalla Interlaken Ostista Lauterbrunneniin, josta postibussi vie sinut Schilthornin asemalle Stechelbergissä. Köysiratavaunuja Mürreniin kulkee 30 minuutin välein.

Kun pääsimme perille, olimme varsin nälkäisiä, löysimme Ristoranti-Pizzeria Molinon, jossa söimme tonnikalapizzaa 24,50 CHF, Margherita "Pizza O Penne" 10,00 CHF ja Salami E Gorgonzola Pizzan 24,50 CHF. Montreux oli paljon kalliimpi kuin Interlaken.

Kun vierailimme Bernissä, suurin osa ihmisistä puhui saksaa, Locarnossa kuuli eniten italiaa ja täällä Montreuxissa ranska on puhutuin kieli. Joka tapauksessa kaikki puhuivat oikein hyvää englantia. Löysimme hotellimme, jonka parvekkeelta oli hieno järvinäköala.

HotelliGolf Hotel René Capt

Uloskirjautuminen:11.00

Hän äänitti viimeisen albuminsa, Queen - "Made in Heaven" Montreuxin studiossa.

Kuvanveistäjä Irina Sedleckan patsas on kunnianosoitus Mercurylle.

Avoinna (2014): 9.00 - 19.00 (last entry 18.00)

* Montreux
* Territet
* Chillon
* Villeneuve
* Bouveret
* Saint-Gingolph

Vierailimme Villeneuvessa ja astuimme siellä bussiin ja ajoimme takaisin hotellillemme.

Hotellimme ravintolassa söimme illalliseksi kanasalaattia, lohipastaa ja spagettia.

Menimme nukkumaan ukkosen alkaessa.

Seuraava ja viimeinen 007-pysähdyksemme tämän kertaisella Sveitsin matkallamme on Geneve, josta tämä koko kierros alkoi. Lue viimeisen Sveitsin päivän seikkailustamme täältä

007 Travel story: Lauterbrunnen & Grindelwald (SWITZERLAND) 2014

In order to read our 007 Travel story of Switzerland from the day one, click here.
You can follow there day by day our traveling.

Friday 18 July 2014

We left Hotel Eiger behind and headed to the mountain train from Mürren BLM to Lauterbrunnen BLM, duration 21 minutes (later part of the journey was made again using a cable car). Without the Swiss Pass the costs would have been 8,85 EUR / adult, 4,42 EUR / child.

The Lauterbrunnen–Mürren mountain railway (German: Bergbahn Lauterbrunnen–Mürren, BLM) is a hybrid transport system in the Bernese Oberland area of Switzerland, which connects the villages of Lauterbrunnen and Mürren. The system consists of a connected aerial cableway, also known as the Grütschalpbahn, and an adhesion worked mountain railway.

One of the most famous tourist attractions of Lauterbrunnen is The Staubbach Falls.
The Staubbach Falls (German: Staubbachfall) is a waterfall in Switzerland, located just above Lauterbrunnen in the Bernese Oberland. The waterfall drops about 300 metres (1000 ft) from a hanging valley that ends in overhanging cliffs above the Lütschine River.

We reached our hotel which can shortly be seen in "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" (1969) (later "OHMSS"), when Bond girl Teresa "Tracy" di Vicenzo (Diana Rigg) picks up Bond to her car, after Ernst Stavro Blofeld's (Telly Savalas) henchwoman Irma Bunt (Ilse Steppat) and her men try to kill Bond, when he's making a phone call in a phone booth. Lauterbrunnen doubles for an Austrian city Feldkirch in the film.

Zhao Xiangdong, Hotel owner
Myrtha Zwahlen, former Hotel owner

Myrtha Zwahlen
We met Mrs. Myrtha Zwahlen, who is former owner of Hotel Jungfrau and we interviewed her about 007 movie "OHMSS" (1969) and about George Lazenby and other filming crew. See the interview here.

Later we visited Mrs. Zwahlen´s home, she showed us her hand-made deckelis, which are really great!

Hotel's parking lot was the place where the phone booth scene of "OHMSS" (1969) was filmed.

Near the hotel are some other "OHMSS" filming locations, such as places where Bond and Tracy escape with her Mercury Cougar.

This intersection is also a filming location

This Lauterbrunnen village church is quite close to Hotel Jungfrau and it is also visible in the film.

Also the place where Stock car racing happened, was just outside of Lauterbrunnen village. Mika ran a couple of kilometers to the place.

Then we traveled from Lauterbrunnen to Grindelwald by train. Grindelwald is a village and municipality in the Interlaken-Oberhasli administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. Besides the village of Grindelwald, the municipality also includes the settlements of Alpiglen, Burglauenen, Grund, Itramen, Mühlebach, Schwendi, Tschingelberg and Wargistal. Grindelwald village is located at 1,034 m (3,392 ft) above sea level in the Bernese Alps.

At 11.33 by Regio 142 train, direction Interlaken Ost, one change in Zweilütschinen at 11.42, and we moved on towards Grindelwald, where we were at 12.09. Without Swiss Pass this would have cost 7,19 EUR / adult, and 3,60 EUR / child.

We found Grand Hotel Regina, at Dorfstrasse 80, only 2 minutes away from Grindelwald railway station. There is nowadays a bus station in front of Grand Hotel Regina. In the movie there was an ice-skating rink, where Bond meets Tracy.

We had a lunch just opposite Grand Hotel Regina, on the terrace of Restaurant Kreuz & Post.

After the lunch, day was beginning to be really hot, when we walked 20 minutes towards Grindelwald cable car station, where kind of small cable cars go up 30 minutes to First, which is a Bond location from a Bond book "Never Send Flowers" (1993), by John Gardner.

First is a minor summit on the slopes of the Schwarzhorn in the Bernese Oberland. It is mostly known as a cable car station above Grindelwald and as a popular hiking area with the Bachalpsee in proximity. It is also the destination of the classic hike: Schynige Platte-Faulhorn-First.

Altitude: 2168m
Accessibility: Train from Interlaken to Grindelwald, on foot through the village (20 minutes), gondola railway in 3 sections to the First
View: Over the Wetterhorn, Finsteraarhorn, close-up Eiger views, and a glimpse of Grindelwald through to Kleine Scheidegg
Attractions: First Flyer, hikes to the Bachalpsee lake, mountain hikes to the Faulhornand and on to the Schynige tableland, highland hikes to the Grosse Scheidegg (bus connections in summer)
Culinary aspects: "Restaurant First" with 350 seats, sun terrace with up to 300 places

See the ticket prices here

The view from First down to the valley was really fantastic!

After buying some souvenirs, we came back down using the same route and on the way we were able to see the "First level", where we could see nicely down to Grindelwald valley.

"The police presence was obvious. Two cars and a police van blocked the little road to the chair lift, and a large sign, in three languages-German, French and English-proclaimed that the chair lift up the mountain, to the First area with its great view of the Grindelwald Basin, was closed until further notice. The entrance was also blocked off with yellow crime scene tape."
John Gardner: "Never Send Flowers"

Then back to the train station and direction was Interlaken. When train was at Interlaken Ost, we took a taxi and went to an amusement park called The MystyLand JungfrauPark

The MystyLand is a huge Indoor & Outdoor Children Paradise especially for children from 2 to 10 years. Children can play in a child friendly area. For the accompanying adults there is a restaurant in the middle of the playground and also a terrace.

After spending a couple of hours there we took a train back to Lauterbrunnen and filmed its railway station where Irma Bunt and Grunther (Yuri Borienko) meet James Bond who is disguised as Sir Hilary Bray.

Then we walked back to the Hotel Jungfrau, and we had a lovely dinner at the hotel's restaurant, where George Lazenby's and Diana Rigg's pictures are on the wall.

We met also Mrs. Zwahlen one more time. She gave us some nice souvenirs, a Switzerland coffee cup and Toblerone chocolate.

Toblerone was created by Theodor Tobler (1876–1941) in Bern, Switzerland in 1908. Theodor Tobler, with his cousin Emil Baumann, developed a unique milk chocolate including nougat, almonds and honey with a distinctive triangular shape. The image of a bear is hidden in the Matterhorn high mountain, symbolizing the town of the chocolate's origin. The product's name is a portmanteau combining Tobler's name with the Italian word torrone (a type of nougat). Bern is known for its bears. The story tells that Bern has got its name, because bear was the first animal that was hunted there. At that timenearly a thousand years agothe region was still covered by forest. The name also contains the name of the place where it is produced: TOBLERONE (Bern or Berne). And the logo contains a bear, the emblem of the city.

The souvenirs from Mrs. Myrtha Zwahlen

Then it was time to go to sleep and be ready in the morning to wake up early in order to reach Interlaken again in time, because we had a car reservation made. Our plan was to reach as far as Verzasca Dam, to see where Bond made his famous bungee jump in "GoldenEye" (1995).
