007 Event: Bond girls are forever (20 August 2015)

What: Bond girls are forever

Where: Kino Victoria, Oslo, Norway

When: 20 August 2015

Bond girls head to Oslo on a mission to help the world's children

On August 20, seven of the most beautiful and glamorous James Bond ladies will be in Oslo for one unforgettable event entitled ‘BOND GIRLS ARE FOREVER’. The Bond Girls will bring classic charm and glamour to a 007-themed dinner and charity auction for UNICEF in the Kino Victoria, paired with an exclusive screening of the newly remastered 4K version of ‘THUNDERBALL’, fifty years after its original release in 1965.

Martine Beswick and Luciana Paluzzi, who both starred in ‘THUNDERBALL’, will be amongst the fabulous seven Bond girls. They will also bring along actresses Tonia Sotiropoulou from ‘Skyfall’Maryam d'Abo from ‘The Living Daylights’Carole Ashby from ‘Octopussy’ and ‘A View to a Kill’Carey Lowell from ‘Licence to Kill’ and Britt Ekland from ‘The Man with the Golden Gun’.

“This is the first time these seven Bond Girls have been brought together”, says Morten Andreas Steingrimsen, initiator and Bond-enthusiast.

Steingrimsen promises that the Norwegian capital will notice that Bond’s ladies are in town. Their glamour, style and charm have captivated audiences decade after decade since the film franchise began in 1962. All based on the books of Ian Fleming.

“James Bond has class, and the event will reflect his style. Bentley Motors, Fleming’s choice of car brand for Bond in his novels, will display a selection of its contemporary models, representing the pinnacle of British motoring with the looks and power that you would expect in a 007 adventure. Breitling will display the original Navitimer wrist chronograph that Sean Connery wore in ‘THUNDERBALL’. For the event, the Swiss watch manufacture Breitling has also donated a Navitimer for a charity auction during the event”, says Steingrimsen.

Sir Roger Moore, who played British agent James Bond in no less than seven films, has long been an ambassador for UNICEF. The former 007 is a passionate advocate for children’s rights, and the proceeds of the auction will therefore go to UNICEF which is the world’s largest humanitarian organisation for children.

“In the books and films, one can get the impression that James Bond has nine lives. The rest of us only have one. UNICEF is grateful for this gift that will contribute to save lives and give all children a fair chance in life”, says Bernt G. ApelandExecutive Director of UNICEF Norway.

The exclusive evening will be complemented with gastronomic highlights worthy of the British secret agent, prepared by Dag Tjersland, one of Oslo’s top chefs. Expert bartenders from the Verité Cocktail Lounge will mix drinks of the 007 universe. Shaken, not stirred, naturally!

“I can promise an unforgettable evening, filled with James Bond style and glamour”, says Morten Andreas Steingrimsen.

Meet the ladies of "SPECTRE"

Here are the ladies of "SPECTRE" (2015).

Source: USA TODAY

Léa Seydoux as Madeleine Swann

The doctor daughter of an assassin, Swann comes into contact with Bond at her Austrian clinic, and while there is a spark between them, their first meeting is abrupt, to say the least. "He comes to find her," Seydoux says, "and she doesn’t want anything to do with him."

Monica Bellucci as Lucia Sciarra

Bond arrives in Italy looking for information from the widow, whose Mafioso husband has been murdered — a fate that might be waiting for her as well. "She comes from a man’s world," Bellucci says. "But when the attraction between them takes place and she realizes her feminine power on him, then she trusts him to save her."

Naomie Harris as Eve Moneypenny

Moneypenny was a young and very green MI6 agent in 2012's Skyfall, and the events of the film — in which she nearly killed our favorite British superspy by accidentally shooting him — "made her reassess what she was doing as a profession and what she wanted to do with the rest of her life," Harris says. In Spectre, "she wants to support in a different way. There’s a maturity in that decision and a groundedness you see with her."

Stephanie Sigman as Estrella

Sigman would love to say, but she's sworn to secrecy about pretty much everything involving her character, including her last name. But when it comes to Estrella's personality, "there's a lot of Stephanie in her. She's a lot like me," the Hollywood newcomer says. "We like to have fun and we're joyful people. I found her really easy to play and go with the flow and just be me."

007 Travelers visited Spy Museum located in Finlayson area in Tampere and met right away Mr. Tommi Eskola at the reception. Soon after that we met Mr. Teppo Turja, the founder of Spy Museum. He was there just for us. He told that he has established Spy Museum 1998 so it will be 18 years old on May 2016. The conservation of unusual and unique objects for future generations is one of the basic functions of the museum.

Mr. Teppo Turja, the founder of Spy Museum

AGENTS

We were taken to a private tour and Teppo Turja told us interesting facts about the museum and its espionage devices. We learned as well about some agents who are the real life´s james bonds and counterespionage persons.

The most colorful, action packed and underground events in history should be brought into light. Find out which agent is the one who made his most notorious missions in Finland.

We entered the eavesdropping area where we noticed a photo of Sidney Reilly, and Mr. Turja said that Reilly is listed as an inspiration for James Bond.

Also according to Wikipedia "In Ian Fleming, The Man Behind James Bond by Andrew Lycett, Sidney Reilly is listed as an inspiration for James Bond. Reilly's friend, former diplomat and journalist Sir Robert Bruce Lockhart, was a close acquaintance of Ian Fleming for many years and recounted to Fleming many of Reilly's espionage adventures. Lockhart had worked with Reilly in Russia in 1918, where they became embroiled in an SIS-backed plot to overthrow Lenin's Bolshevik government. Within five years of his disappearance in Soviet Russia in 1925, the press had turned Reilly into a household name, lauding him as a master spy and recounting his many espionage adventures. Fleming had therefore long been aware of Reilly's mythical reputation and had listened to Lockhart's recollections. Like Fleming's fictional creation, Reilly was multi-lingual, fascinated by the Far East, fond of fine living, and a compulsive gambler."

Counterespionage persons for Bond in real life represent surely Stig Bergling, Oleg Gordievsky and Arne Treholt, not to mention Richard Sorge who was triple agent, reporter and Doctor of Philosophy. "Sorge was a tough guy but his weakness for beautiful women finally exposed him", Mr.Turja told us.

Mata Hari
Photo: Wikipedia

We were thrilled to hear about the women agents and we saw a golden ring which was once filled with poison. The ring is from 1910's and came to Spy Museum from Germany. There is an engraving on that ring,"MZ". Would it possible stand for Margaretha Geertruida Zelle alias Mata Hari? Mata Hari means "Sun" in Indonesian language.

Golden ring filled with poison
Margaretha Geertruida Zelle performed as oriental dancer Mata Hari at the beginning of 1900's. She spent luxury life with eminent men and provided secret military information for money during the First World War. The varietee dancer and double agent Mata Hari was convicted of spying for Germany and executed by shooting at the age of 41 on 15th of October 1917.

With twinkle in our eyes 007 Travelers remembers that it is said in James Bond parody "Casino Royale" (1967) that James Bond has a daughter with Mata Hari called Mata Bond. The role of Mata Bond was played by Joanna Pettet.

OTHER AGENTS

SOE (Special Operations Executive) - agent
SOE was a British wartime organization in the 1940's, An SOE-agent was dropped by a parachute into enemy territory and when safely on the ground the jump suit and parachute were buried. Under his jumpsuit an agent was wearing casual clothes.
Maybe after his jump SOE agent went to cocktail party like Bond did.

Invisible agent
A combat diver, who did espionage and sabotage attacks for the Soviet Union, is wearing an aqualung apparatus, which has a closed system with oxygen cylinders that does not raise revealing bubbles to the surface

SPYING

"Espionage is a remarkable phenomenom that has affected world´s history", says Mr. Turja. Spying affects in all aspects of society life also today .Nowadays the most important shape of spying is Network espionage.
Spy Museum has the equipment for visitors to legally test how easy it is to capture an e-mail. An object not larger than a regular memory stick hidden into your computer recorded everything you typed on your keyboard. Today the object is obsolete and the actual spy gadget is hidden in your software.

Teppo Turja could not reveal the origin of most of the things in the museum because the equipment have been given to museum in the terms that the origin remains untold. That much he told that Spy Museum has received some espionage devices from Finnish Defence Forces.

AGENT TEST

007 Travelers carried out Spy Museum´s Agent test.  Mr. Tommi Eskola entered the room with metal detector and we started our test.

The test measures the candidates abilities in the field of espionage with eight different tasks including, code breaking, attack prevention with a laser weapon and finding a cache with a metal detector. Each candidate will receive a diploma that recommends them into an organization best suited for their ability.

007 Travelers passed the Agent test, scored 33 points and got a Diploma!
Spy Museum recommends 007 Travelers to Israel's intelligent service Mossad. How good are you? Go and test yourself.

Reserve 30-45 minutes to fulfill the test. Cost of the test is  5e/person + admission.

THE SPY MUSEUM SHOP

Surely you want to buy a pen with an invisible ink or other agent stuff? 007 Travelers did, of course!

ATTENTION!

One of the museum's educational goals is to make children and youths interested in museums in general.

Half of the Spy Museum´s visitors are foreign tourists and the other half is from Finland. The most memorable visitors according to Teppo Turja were Whitesnake bands members, who showed up suddenly to the Spy Museum! There have also visited people who are claimed to appear on the secret so called Tiitinen´s list, suspected of Stasi connections. At its best Spy Museum has over 20 000 visitors per year. You should visit too!

At the moment Teppo Turja has been on retirement for one year, and now his son Pirkka Turja leads Spy Museum. Spy Museum is a partner for 007 Travelers on THUNDERBALL 50 YEARS ANNIVERSARY SCREENING event on 15th of August 2015. See more information about the event here.
