007 Drink: Retsina wine

Drink: Retsina wine
Bond book appearanceJames Bond: The Authorized Biography of 007 (1973)
Experience of 007 Travelers: @ home

Retsina (Greek: Ρετσίνα) is a Greek white (or rosé) resinated wine, which has been made for at least 2000 years. Its unique flavor is said to have originated from the practice of sealing wine vessels, particularly amphorae, with Aleppo Pine resin in ancient times. Before the invention of impermeable glass bottles, oxygen caused many wines to spoil within the year. Pine resin helped keep air out, while at the same time infusing the wine with resin aroma. The Romans began to use barrels in the 3rd century AD, removing any oenological necessity for resin, but the flavor itself was so popular that the style is still widespread today.

"In the evening Andreas was late, like Greeks do everywhere. Bond had already eaten the dinner, when he arrived with nice letter package. Bond thanked him and offered a drink and they sat on hotel's wonderful terrace drinking retsina and watching the twinkle of lights of Athens on the valley. Andreas talked a lot and enjoyed the opportunity to show his own English skills. It didn't happen everyday, that someone offered him a drink in a luxury hotel and he made the most of it. Finally Bond turned the discussion to Southern Greece and Andreas mentioned a small harbour town. He described its market with love, bysantine church that was from 700s and the beauty of the local girls. Andreas implied to be some kind of expert in Greek sex."

The Celebration of a Life of Sir Roger Moore

What: The Celebration of a Life of Sir Roger Moore
Where: Saint Paul's Church, Monte-Carlo
When: 10 June 2017, 11 o´clock

The life of James Bond star Sir Roger Moore was celebrated with a “beautiful service” on Saturday, his manager has said.

Friends and family said their goodbyes to the longest-reigning 007, who died in Switzerland last month aged 89 after a “short but brave battle with cancer”, at a private service in Monte Carlo.

Sir Roger’s manager and biographer, Gareth Owen, posted a photo of the order of service on the actor’s official Twitter account on Sunday.

Roger Moore's new book À Bientôt

Sir Roger Moore's new book will be published posthumously.  "À Bientôt" is out on 14th of September 2017.

Delivered, along with his own hand-drawn sketches, to his publisher mere days before he passed away, in À Bientôt, Roger looks back on his life - and gives it his trademark sideways glance, too. Nostalgic, funny, charming and, most importantly, very human, his reflections on age and ageing encompass all aspects of this universal experience, from reminiscences on childhood and 'what might have been'; keeping abreast of the ever-changing times; senior moments, memory and getting to grips with technology; the joys - and frustrations - of travel; work and play. Along with these he tells of the intense happiness - and some equally intense sadnesses - of family life.

Featuring his own sketches throughout, this book sees Roger at his most open and forthright. The true stories and situations he shares in this warm and intimate book reveal a 'Bond Unbound', the human being inside the action-adventure character that made him so famous the world over. Always upbeat and - as ever - endearingly self-effacing and unpretentious, in À Bientôt he shares the joys he experienced every day along with the tiny triumphs that life brings to us all at the most unexpected times.
