Mexico’s Day of the Dead festival is one of the most important cultural events in the Mexican calendar. The day might sound a little morbid but it’s actually a very beautiful and complicated event. It is all about honoring the dead with food, flowers, candles, parades, decorative masks, sugar skulls and dancing skeletons. It’s also a time for reflection for those for those who have recently lost a loved one, or a time of demonstration for groups with a political agenda raising awareness about tragic events.

Other events seen in Bond movies earlier:

Junkanoo parade in "Thunderball" (1965):
A Junkanoo parade is featured in sequences of the James Bond film Thunderball that occur in Nassau, Bahamas. The celebration was staged specifically for the movie since it was filmed at the wrong time of year, but local residents were enthusiastic, creating elaborate floats and costumes and involving hundreds of people. The Carnival of Rio in "Moonraker" (1979)
The production team decided on Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, relatively early on, a city that producer Cubby Broccoli had visited on vacation, and a team was sent to that city in early 1978 to capture initial footage from the Carnaval festival, which featured in the film. (Wikipedia)

The Palio horse race (Palio di Siena) in "Quantum of Solace" (2008)
Second unit filming began in Italy at the Palio di Siena horse race on 16 August 2007, although at that point director Marc Forster was unsure how it would fit into the film. (Wikipedia)

  1. Curious statement - since the Day of the Dead normally takes place in November , I just can't see Eon waiting till this month in 2015 to film it - unless they stage a fake event ...

    1. Hello Kevin. Good point. They can't wait that long. So, they'll have to create the event in the studios somehow. Or is it possible that they have some shots taken already during 2014 Day of the Dead...? And then they add studio shots?
